My Condolences to Hazel, the Yetman family and Erroll Peddle, on the news of Ed’s passing. Ed was part of the fabric and history of both the Whelan family and Ruby’s Drive In. Ed began working at Ruby’s when he was 14, and stayed on until his mid-twenties. I know my father, Ed Whelan, is deeply saddened, and the loss of Ed is like losing a family member. The Whelan family will remember Ed as a hard worker, and great guy. He always had a good word to say, had a smile on his face, and truly enjoyed the simpler things in life: country music, and cold beer. I have many memories of Ed, but in particular, Christmas Eve quite a few years ago. Ed asked me to give him a ride to Pike’s, and we ended up bar hopping Harbour Grace for the afternoon, hitting Pike’s, the Daltonian, and lastly the Stagehead Pub. I never got any of the last minute things my Dad asked me to pick up, and was more than a little tipsy at Midnight Mass. I will remember Ed however, mostly for his catch phrase: “It’s all copacetic.” He would say that with a grin on his face, and usually, again in his words, take a ‘swalley’ of beer.

To the Yetman Family, Please accept my deepest condolences at this time. I have many fond memories of "Eddie" as we sailed together for several years. The one thing I will always remember about Eddie was the humor he brought to our nightly card games and the tales he told. Rest in Peace my friend. Jake

To Hazel and the Yetman Family So sorry to hear of Ed's passing Ed was aways a Great friend and a very kind person. The kind of person that not only said he would 'give you the shirt off his back' but at times did. Ed loved country music, even back when 'country was not cool'. I remember one nite about 20+ years ago I was camping out in my parents back yard.(Next door to The Cave).Ed came over after it closed and got me up. We climbed in threw the back window of Ruby's and sat down in the closed restaurant and had a few beer.Ed wanted a pack of smokes and so he put some money in the old cigarette machine and pushed the buttons.Nothing happened. Then we noticed that it was not plugged in. When Ed plugged it in, he got his smokes and about $20.00 in change. He loaded up the old jukebox and we sat, drank beer and listened to all his old country favourites until morning.A nite I will always remember. Ed was country when country was not cool,...but Ed was cool, very cool. So long Friend. Eddie
