Obituary of Cecil Stanley Oates

Please share a memory of Cecil to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Passed peacefully away in his own home, surrounded with the love of his family, in his 84th year on August 24th, 2024, Cecil Stanley Oates of Carbonear. Predeceased by beloved wife, Beatrice, whom he dearly missed for the last 14 years; parents: Thomas and Winnifred "Molly" Oates; sister: Sybil Wright; brothers: Thomas, Edison "Ted', Arthur, Bill, and Derek; special nephew: Edison; and nephews: Campbell, Darrell, Trent, and Travis; parents-in-law: Frederick and Margaret Northcott. Leaving to mourn, children: Tracy, Tina (John Swire), Warren, Wynette (Robert Clarke); two beloved granddaughters: Sara (Shane) and Caroline; brother: Melvin; sisters: Joyce Crowley and Vicki Thorne; special nephew: Ian Oates; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and lifelong friends. Cecil was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many. He dearly loved the outdoor life – in the woods, hunting, fishing, skidooing and having a boil-up, or on the water, jigging cod. These were some of his many passions. His family meant the world to him and he made sure they knew it. Born in a family of ten, he was always happy among ‘the crowd’, sharing many laughs, stories, and recitations. Cecil was very community oriented and served on the Town Council for over 20 years. He was a fireman for over 15 years and past Master of the Masonic Lodge, as well as served on various other committees. The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses who cared for their Dad, and were a great support during his time of illness. Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Monday, August 26 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m, Wednesday, August 28 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Funeral service to take place at Bethany United Church, 2 Church Street, Carbonear on Wednesday August 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Carbonear Fire Department (Pumper 52 Maintenance Project).
