To Elsie, Karen & Llew,
Charl and I became good friends during our teenage years in the late 1950s and 60s. We were sea cadets and Val was one of our officers. We knocked around together, first in Harbour Grace and later in St. John’s. Charl went to trade school and I went to MUN. He had a car at an early age and we got together every night for years cruising around the nurse’s residence at the General Hospital in St. John’s. We imbibed a few cold ones and even managed to thaw ones that got frozen in the trunk of the car! I remember the Tri-Tones and dances at the Legion etc. I remember jam sessions in Hazel and Val’s front room. Charl loved his Fender and Art played all sorts of instruments – twelve string, banjo etc. Charl was my best friend and I considered him that throughout the years. Even though we didn’t see a lot of each other, we were excited when we did infrequently come together. Rest in peace my friend! Ned Smith, Kincardine, Ontario.

Sorry to see that Charlie- as he was known to all in our school and Sea Cadet days - has made his exit from the stage of life
He was a quiet- unassuming and very friendly person who had many friends .
I know the past few years have been difficult for his family but his time had come and he is now at rest .
Sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing
Godspeed Charlie
