A native of Ladle Cove, at a young age Marion left home to work "in service." After a short period in Carmanville, she made her way to Lewisporte, where she was employed by Mrs. A.T. (Aunt Net) Woolfrey. In later years, she often described that relationship as the best two years of her life. It was in that period she met our father, Roy, and in summer of 1949, they were married at Ladle Cove. At first they lived with our grandfather, Fred Small, on Church Street, but eventually moved to the home on Main Street where she raised her family and worked alongside Dad at anything that would help keep the wolf from the door. She had a great capacity for friendship and there was always room for another teabag in the teapot and another cup on the table. In 1973, Dad accepted work in Labrador City. It wasn't long before Mom and two of the sons joined him. Once there, Mom thought she invented the place! She loved everything about living there and thoroughly enjoyed the 20 years of friends and activities she found there. In 1993, Dad retired and they moved back to Lewisporte. Some years after Dad's death there, she decided to move to a cottage in Gander. Her years there were filled with her usual; knitting, quilting, gardening, with friends new and old, and with family. It was from there she moved into Oram's Bethesda Manor in Gander and for the past year has been living at Lane's Living in Carbonear.
Cremation has taken place.
Her funeral service will be held from St. Matthew’s United Church, Lewisporte on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may donate to a charity of one’s choice.
