Obituary of Wendell E. Hunt
Please share a memory of Wendell E. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at his residence on Monday, October 2, 2023, Wendell E. Hunt of Harbour Grace, age 73 years.
Predeceased by parents: Duncan and Mary.
Wendell was a remarkable man whose legacy made a mark on many. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He provided his family all the essentials of life, gave us so many good times, and ensured we made many memories. He had a love for travelling and exploring all the adventures and excursions that came our way.
He started his career as a millwright at the Iron Ore company in Labrador City and then to Molson's brewery in St. John’s. From there, he wore many hats - from building and owning restaurants, laundromats, and a hotel, to being a school bus driver, truck driver, and a carpenter. He could turn his hand to anything and did a great job at it. He took pride in everything he did. He ended his career as a chauffeur with Marine Atlantic.
Through the years he gave a lot to his community and enjoyed the time he served as Deputy Mayor and a Councilor with his town. He greeted everyone with a smile and was always there to lend a helping hand. He made many friendships along the way and cherished each and every one of them. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Leaving to mourn, wife of 54 years: Carol; one daughter: Tammy (Kevin); one son: Wendell (Andrea); three grandchildren: Victoria, Cameron, and Leah; one brother: Duncan (Janet); two sisters: Linda and Florence (Silas); two brothers-in-law: Cyril (Marilyn) and John (Florence); one sister-in-law: Ada (Len); special friends: Ray Bastarache, Gerry Power, and Chris Kavanagh; also a large number of other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to his home care workers, Tina Baldwin and Laurie Sheppard; Dr. Raleen Murphy; Robin and staff at Sinyard’s Pharmacy; community health nurses for their care and regular visits; and Rev. John Nicolle for his compassion and support.
Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Tuesday, October 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
