Obituary of Judy Durant

It’s with broken hearts that the family of Judy Durant (nee Sellars) announce her sudden but peaceful passing. While we are broken-hearted, we were privileged to have had such a wonderful and supportive mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and overall spectacular human being in our lives. Predeceased by her loving parents: Raymond and Lillian Sellars. Leaving to mourn, her beloved children: Joanne Mercer (Darrell) and John; Gammy’s Beauties: Luke and Alex Mercer; siblings: Ross Sellars (Ruby) and Joy Baker (Gary); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; as well as, Elizabeth, Russ, Roy, and their families. A special mention to the many lives she touched as a teacher at Cowan Heights Elementary for 30 years, many of whom she adopted as her own; her numerous former colleagues; and sorority sisters at Beta Sigma Phi. Lover of traditional NL music, notably the Salt Beef Junkies and Mainland Kitchen Band, avid curling fan, Facebook participator, and live-action people watcher. Judy was always the life of the party with a joke, saying, story or a smile on her face. Anybody who visited never left with an empty belly, in need or without a laugh. Visitation and funeral service taking place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's. Visitations on Tuesday, December 13 from 7:00-9:00 pm and Wednesday, December 14 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 15 at 11:00 am. Heaven just got a little louder and brighter for all those welcoming her home.
