Obituary of Harold William Taylor

Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital, NL on December 9, 2022, Mr. Harold William Taylor, in his 90th year. Predeceased by his parents: Lemuel Joseph and Mary Frances (nee Ash) Taylor, Harbour Grace; his first wife: Melba; his sisters: Dorothy (late William) Heale, Alexandria, Ontario, Verna (late Alec) Bursey, St. John's, NL, Edythe Moffatt, Merrickville, Ontario; his nephew, Glenn Bursey, St. John's, NL. Lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Winifred Elms (nee Moores); his brother: Clarence (late Jean) Taylor, St. John's, NL; his special niece and nephew: Elaine (Kevin) Penney and Bill Taylor, both of St. John’s, NL and his brother-in-law, Roy Moffatt, Merrickville, Ontario. Pop was an amazing step-dad to: Robert and his wife Ana Elms, William Elms, Carolyn and her husband Jon-Paul Winik, Fran and her husband Ken Vella, and Dr. Edward Elms, all of Ontario; a wonderful step-grandfather to: Natasha (Stephen Klein) Elms, Katarina Elms, Benjamin Winik, and Sophie Winik; also leaving many other dear nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mr. Taylor was born and raised in Harbour Grace, later, living many years in Lewisporte NL, where he retired as Operations Manager of Marine Atlantic, a position he held for over 10 years. He was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, joining Canam Lodge #19 in Stephenville in 1961 becoming Master in 1970. He was initiated in Lewisporte Lodge #14 in 1997, and was Master of Lewisporte Lodge #14 from 2000-2002. He was very involved in the degree workings of the Lodge, and held all the offices in all the degrees. He was Master of Unity Lodge of Installed Masters in 2001 and was Chaplain for many years. He also held an office in the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador as Grand Jr. Deacon. Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Sunday, December 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Monday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. from Coughlan United Church, Harbour Grace, with the Reverend Nancy Mojica-Fisher and the Reverend Dr. Wayne Cole officiating. Interment in Coughlan United Cemetery, Harbour Grace. As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to Coughlan United Church, P.O Box 209, Harbour Grace, NL, A0A 2M0.
