Obituary of Lewis Alvin Potter
Please share a memory of Lewis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lewis Potter of Bay de Verde passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, August 6th, at the Old Perlican Hospital a month short of his 96th birthday. Born in Clementsvale, Nova Scotia, he moved to Newfoundland in 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carrie (née Barter); sister, Chris Larramore; eight children, Doug (Sylvia), Bernie (Jan), Rose, Adair (Darlene), Sherry, Dean (Dionne), Corey (Michelle) and Laurie (Michael), and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, spread across North America. He enjoyed passing his knowledge on to the next generation and particularly loved having two of his grandsons, Blake and Brock live so close to him.
Pre-deceased by his parents, Seldon and Jenny; his siblings, Doris, Allan, Lenly, Leona, Violette, and many close friends.
Lew was an outstanding example of community spirit, strong work ethic, devotion to family, and a lover of the outdoors. He was one of original members of the Bay de Verde Fire Department and helped many people, from rescuing people in snowstorms to fixing peoples cars. He worked for years as an Artesian Well Driller and then moved into highway construction until his 70s. He was jack of all trades, and his long healthy life was due to the fact he was always busy with some project or another, building fish smokers, gardening, moose hunting, fishing for trout, out on the bike, and cooking up Jiggs dinners on Sunday.
