Dear Ian , Keith and family. I am thinking about you today as you celebrate your Dad's life while mourning his loss. Uncle Carl was a big part of our lives. No matter where he was in the world, he always made time and had genuine interest in all members of his family. He had a close and unique relationship with each one of his siblings that endured throughout their lives. One of my favorite stories that Uncle Carl liked to tell was of his special bond with his big brother, Jack. My Dad started teaching at the age of 17 but always returned home to Blackhead for Christmas and summer breaks. To mark these special occasions, students often gave the teacher gifts. Carl always shared in those gifts. Time was forever marked as ' the year of the wallet' or the 'year of the fountain pen'. It was a big deal to have your big brother home but as a little boy to get such a treat was momentous. My father and mother and each of their children loved Uncle Carl dearly. He had a unique way of making us feel special just as he was special to us. Today as you make your way to Blackhead, you are in my thoughts as you walk on the land that held such a special place in his heart and make his final resting place, there, among those he held so dear. Love to all, Dallas.

As a child it was always exciting to welcome Uncle Carl and his children, my first cousins, Ian and Keith when they visited St. John's. Carl and my dad, Burt his brother were very close and Carl and his family held a special place in our hearts. Carl was kind, caring and possessed a sharp wit steeped in humour. He was lovely to listen to, interesting and funny.
Carl enjoyed a flair for fashion, always immaculately dressed in finely pressed and starched white cotton shirts, beautiful silk ties and distinctive gold cuff links.
To Ian and Keith we share in your sadness on this day when we celebrate the life and love of Uncle Carl.
God be with you Carl from Kim and family Sandy, Natasha and Will

Heartfelt condolences to Ian, Keith and family members.
Uncle Carl is a superb example of someone who, through hard work and determination, made the most of his potential and talents, achieved success and never ever forgot where he came from.
Astute in his business dealings, a man close to his family and community, and a friend to all, Uncle Carl served as a role model to many of us while remaining humble and modest. His life reminds us of the importance of aiming high, keeping everything in perspective and maintaining a sense of humour.
To a true Newfoundlander who has made us all proud…rest in peace.
Graham, Marlene, Jourdan, Ericha and Caroline

Uncle Carl was one of the nicest people I have known. His love of life was contagious, as was his wit and sense of humor. His friendship with my father, Alec was a life long example of brotherly love. They spoke on a daily basis, bonded by a love of business and kinship.
At age 19, I sailed from Hr Grace to Gloucester on the Polar Reefer, Carl met me on the wharf in Gloucester and took me under his wing for a few days. His family were away in Maine at their summer home. I had a great time visiting him and seeing how his business worked. A fond memory, I will always cherish.
They were quite a family. Jack, Alec, Ruth,Bert, Dot and Carl.
All very accomplished and proud of their heritage. All are fondly remembered.
My sincere condolences to Ian , Keith and their families.

To the Moores family,
My dad ( George Burden ) grew up in Blackhead next door to Carl and his siblings. They were longtime friends and I remember chatting with Carl on many occasions. The most recent being when Dot passed. He knew me immediately and greeted me with his wonderful smile! We reminisced about Blackhead and the good times they had growing up! Always a lovely gentlemen! Cherish your fond memories!

Ian - Keith and families
Welcome to you all as you come to celebrate the life of Carl and return his remains to the place from whence he began almost a century ago
He was a very engaging personality and like other members of his immediate family - the possessor of a wonderful sense of humour.
He and his siblings were closely knit and Carl returned to his home and native land numerous times during his life.
Now he will be laid to rest with his parents and dear sister in the shadow of Bobby’s Hills and in his native soil
Sincere condolences are extended to Keith - Ian and their families.
Uncle Carl was a man among men - he won’t be forgotten
Godspeed Carl
RIP
