Obituary of George F. Noel

George F. Noel (age 82 years; died March 11, 2022) Born in Harbour Grace, died peacefully at St. Luke’s Home, St. John’s, surrounded by his family. Leaving to mourn Sharon Elizabeth, and her children, Sarah (Adam), Kate (Joshua), Mark (Farrah), great-granddaughter, Violet, and Gregory Arthur (Paula) and his children, Andrew and Evan, and a large number of family and friends. Predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth, baby brother, and parents, Fred and Violet (Hunt) Noel. Harbour Grace always held a special place for Dad and we have so many fond memories of the numerous summer vacations spent with family and friends on both the North and South side. He worked, too… he imparted many fond stories of colleagues from Kodak Canada, Iron Ore Company of Canada, The Newfoundland Hospital Association, Janeway Children’s Hospital, and The Waterford Hospital. George lived for his family- Sharon was born first but Greg was clearly his favourite. He was so proud of Sharon and Greg and their many accomplishments, but most importantly, his five grandchildren and most recently, Violet, his first great-grandchild. He loved the outdoors, but not shoveling snow. His love and respect for all animals was evident every time he went out- he truly was like a 5 year old and had to pet every dog he saw. He loved to cook for his family and many a good night was spent discussing family history, solving the world’s issues or quoting great movie lines. He hated brussel sprouts. In early family times, Sharon and Greg looked to the runs to Leo’s for fish and chips. Dad loved people as evident by getting to know everyone at Leo’s where George had his own vinegar stock. Saturday night was always steak night and Sunday was for dinners at Nan’s. During his retirement, he took on a special task of caring for his mother and father. His love, kindness, and compassion clearly evident in the special care he showed them both. His greatest gift was his love and a sense of humour. Dad looked to find the humour in everything, even dark times. He worked his way up the “corporate” ladder via hard work and determination (and his great looks). Taking classes after hours he would say, “stay in school and get the work done there”. Much respect and praise for the staff at Canning’s (CBS), and St. Luke’s Home (St. John’s). St. Luke’s only “knew” Dad for a few days but showed him and his family great respect and dignity in his final hours. He showed great love, respect, and a zest for life. He laughed and cried with us. He will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, practice kindness to each other and animals, big and small. The family requests visitors join us at Noel’s Funeral Home, 21-25 Harvey Street, Harbour Grace, Monday, March 14th from 2-4 pm for a celebration of life. We respectfully ask for masks to be worn during this time.
