Helga, Ian,Lorraine,Roy and extended families! Deepest sympathy on the passing of your loved one,”Pete”. Growing up here in Hr.Grace we always knew her by that name. Mrs.Reiss ( then Miss Iverson) was my first piano teacher. I was 5 Years old. My sister Jeanette and I went to her parents house on Victoria Street, Harbour Grâce for music lessons twice a week... we continued to be her piano students after she married Franz and they lived above the meat market on Water Street. She was lovely and kind and very patient. Our deepest condolences to Helga and all her family and friends. We remember her fondly... Glenys Vokey Walsh and the Vokey family.

I remember Mrs. Reiss very well from piano and voice lessons many years ago when she lived in Spaniard's Bay and afterward in Hr Grace. She also taught music at the older Holy Redeemer School Spaniard's Bay and she produced magic with those students she taught especially the Christmas concert. As her private student I participated in the Trinity College of Music program and testing plus the Kiwanis music festival. She was very devoted to her calling and treated her vocation very seriously. I remember her singing with her 2 sisters as well who were such a beautiful sound. They definitely were the good ole days!
My condolences to your family on her passing. I know you will miss her greatly.

Lorraine and family; So sorry to hear about Pete’s passing. We walked home from the Convent School in Hr Grace many times. She was very dedicated to her music then. Little did I realize that many years down the road she would teach my daughter and challenge her to be the best that she could, thus leading her and many others to a career in music. May she Rest In Peace.

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Reiss' passing. She was a fabulous piano teacher and I credit her 100% with my ability to play piano. Recently we shared memories of those times of me as a child at piano lessons and she spoke fondly of my family, even to wish my own daughter success in the Kiwanis Music Festival. She was so happy to hear that I still am able to play piano 20 years after my lessons had ended. She was always so proud to share of Helgas accomplishments in music, it was a pleasure to know her and to have spoken with her just 2 weeks ago.
