Obituary of Gertrude Recchia (Laing)

The Recchia family announces the passing of Gertrude Marie Recchia (nee Laing). Gertrude was born on Bell Island on July 13, 1945 to Gordon and Marie Laing and died at the Carbonear General Hospital on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the age of 74 years. Predeceased by parents: Gordon and Marie; brother: Gordon. She was the loving wife of Guido 'Guy'; mother of two daughters: Jeanette Wareham (Rick Mateljan) and Virginia Wareham-Zaher (Reda), both of Mississauga, ON; grandmother to Anthony Ryan Zaher. She is survived by her siblings, three brothers: Riv (Lillian) Laing, Blackhead, Gary (Debbie) Laing and Bill (Charmaine) Laing, both of Carbonear; six sisters: Patricia (David) Jackman, Alberton, PEI, Jean (George) Thoms, Carbonear, Rosalind (John) Watkins, Ottawa, ON, Sylvia Laing and Betty (Jeff) Prowse, both of Carbonear, and Vera (Dan) Sjoberg, Arizona, USA; sister-in-law: Frances Laing, Hamilton, ON; best friend: Jan (Mario) Recchia, Grimsby, ON; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Carbonear General Hospital who were there for Gertrude in her time of need. Following cremation, visitation will take place at Noel's Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Tuesday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service to take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. from Noel's Memorial Chapel, Carbonear. Inurnment in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear.  In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 137, Carbonear, NL, A1Y 1B6.
