We have fond memories of visiting the Kelloways in Salmon Cove & after Mr Kelloway's death Mrs Kelloway in Victoria. We never left without first having a cup of tea with baked goodies. Mrs Kelloway's biscuits were exceptional. She always had a beautiful smile & we knew she was glad to see us. There was usually a crochet or knitting project on her cofee table. Her beds had the most beautiful homemade quilts. She told us she loved her church. She was a beautiful Christian lady. Our thoughts & prayers are with Beulah, Mildred & their families.

Every time we visited Nfld. over the years we HAD to go to Salmon Cove and later to Victoria to visit Mrs. Kelloway. She put the kettle on immediately for tea which went along great with her homemade bread and biscuits. We always admired all her crochet work which she had to give up the last year or so because of her failing eyesight. Who will we visit the next time we're in Victoria? We will certainly miss her.

To Uncle Elmer, Aunt Beulah & family, thinking of you these past few days with love and prayer. I remember visiting Salmon Cove with (then retired) Pop Vaters when he'd 'drop by,' usually around mid-afternoon after a morning in Victoria. I can still hear Mr. Kelloway's welcome - his big, deep voice accented with real Newfoundland speech - "Brother Vaters!" They'd sit and chat while Mrs. Kelloway fixed tea and her famous fresh-baked bread . . . I seem to recall finger sandwiches and a lace table cloth. She struck me as a woman not to be trifled with, and of course I mean this in the best sense; her preparations were offered up as to royalty. (Pop would then amble back to Victoria for a nap.) Another time, with Gary and David, I drained the battery in Uncle Elmer's '68 Fleetwood by fiddling with all the power doodads. I thought I was gonna be skinned until Mr. Kelloway emerged from the 'barn' with a grin and jumper cables, and boosted the big Caddy with his '68 Ford Torino. Wonderful days, wonderful days. And to think, the best is yet to come . . . Steve Shaw

Dear Beulah: From all of us in Victoria our heartfelt sympathy at the passing of your beloved mother. May your faith and the support of family and friends give you strength, comfort and peace at this difficult time. "Memories are precious moments etched in time and tucked away in our hearts forever". Mom Kelloway, was a great lady I got to know during her many visits to Toronto. I always admired her kindness, independence and her talents. On one of her visits, I complimented her on a beautiful tablecloth she had crochete for her daughter. Next thing I knew, she made one for me. I was overwhelmed..it's a real Masterpiece, I will always cherish it. Thank You and May God Bless her! Chris

Dear MOM KELLOWAY, I want to Thank you for everything you have meant to me over the years. For your love, for your home made bread (that I would eat by the loaf as you pulled it from the oven), for the TIME you spent with me, for the memories I have with you and Pop on weekends or summers I would spend "around the bay". Thank You for the love you have shown which made me proud to be able to call us FAMILY. I will miss being able to call you just to hear your voice and I will miss calling to tell you where I am flying off to next and hear you say, "My Gary...what do ya want ta go there fur?" I will miss your cards at birthday time, Christmas or Easter to which you have never missed or was late. I always knew I would find it hard when this day came, but I did not realize it is harder than I thought. The difficulty I have with you leaving is not that I feel sorry for you, because I know for sure where you have gone. I feel sorry for me (selfish I know) but I realize I can not pick up the phone to just call you anytime I want, you are in my heart but your just not physically there. (and of course the home made bread is history) So, I guess I will just have to wait my turn to see you & Pop in Heaven. Please say hi to Pop & give him a hug for me. I know he is happy to see you. He has been waiting a long time for you to come home ....but finally your home. So, I will say good bye for now but the good news is...I will see you again! Your Favorite GRANDson, Gary

We are all so very saddened by her leaving. However, we are comforted in knowing that her time with us was precious and memorable. We believe 'Aunt Glady' will find her journey ahead to be also as memorable! ...and you know...It wouldn't surprise us at all...if she didn't give us a call just to let us know how it went!!

At this time of sadness for all who knew 'Aunt Glady' there are also many lingering pleasant boyhood memories of visits to the Kelloway home in Salmon Cove. There I watched my first football game, and saw Astronaut John Glenn and his 1962 Mercury flight, since Aunt Glady and Uncle Gil had a TV. Friends and family will miss Aunt Glady, but we know that for her, this is not the end!
